Breast Implants

Today, with the technological developments in plastic surgery, breast implantation has become one of the most common surgical operations performed in many parts of the world. Both women whose breasts are removed by mastectomy after breast cancer and women who want to change the shape and size of their breasts for aesthetic reasons resort to breast implantation.

There are many types of breast implants that can be preferred considering body type, body needs and personal expectations. Breast implants are divided into many categories according to the filling material, surface type, projection, and size.

Breast implants, which are considered medical equipment and therefore must have CE certification, are subjected to numerous tests and inspections, and are placed on the market after they are guaranteed to comply with the standards. As a result of research, no link has been found between breast implants and the incidence of breast cancer.

Implants are manufactured at different heights and with different base diameters. When the base diameter or height of an implant increases, its volume increases. Another difference is the shape of the implant. Today, round and anatomical (drop) implants are available.

Implants can be placed in two locations on the chest wall. Placement under the breast tissue is preferred in patients who have enough breast tissue to hide the implant. The alternative to this operation is placement under the pectoral muscle membrane, which is not significantly different from placement under the breast tissue. Another technique is to place the implant under the pectoralis major muscle located behind the breast.
