Otoplasty (Ear Job)
Otoplasty actually means ear aesthetics, as in the meaning of the word. It is the process of reshaping the auricle and making it more natural and aesthetic. There are many surgical techniques and methods.
Otoplasty can be performed on anyone who is dissatisfied with their ear shape. Pathologies such as ear size and prominence (absence or weakness of antihelix and cavum concha hypertrophy) that disturb patients can be treated with various otoplasty techniques to achieve natural and satisfactory results. Especially in preschool children, the average age of 5 years is the ideal time. The fact that the prominent ear is the subject of ridicule at school affects the child's psychology very negatively.
The otoplasty surgery technique is performed under general anesthesia. The average operation time varies between 1-2 hours. Through an incision made behind the ear, the shape desired to be given to the ear is made with some suture techniques. Depending on the case, cartilage excision is performed if necessary and a natural aesthetic ear is tried to be obtained. After the surgery, the incision behind the ear is closed with a suture.
If sterile work is performed during and after the operation, no signs of infection are found. When the sutures used for the patient are appropriate and of high quality, there is no opening of the ear, scooping, or deformity. Hematoma is not observed when good perioperative bleeding control and good postoperative dressing and follow-up are performed.
Postoperative dressings and controls every other day last for a total of 10 days. On the tenth day, after removing the stitches, the patient can return to his/her daily social life, except for the recommendation to sleep with an elastic head bandage at night.
